A YETI is built for rough use. The finish still likes a gentle hand.
An engraved YETI Rambler is one of those things you use every single day. Coffee in the morning, water all afternoon, maybe something cold on the porch at night. All that use means it needs a quick clean often and a deeper clean now and then.
The good news: engraving does not make cleaning harder. The mark is bare stainless steel where the coating was removed, so you clean it exactly like the rest of the cup. Here is the routine we recommend for every YETI we engrave in Aubrey.
Quick answer
Hand wash with warm water, mild dish soap, and a soft sponge. Pull the lid gasket out and wash it separately once a week. For coffee stains or odors, soak the inside with baking soda and warm water or use YETI cleaning tablets in the cup only. Never use bleach, chlorine cleaners, or abrasive pads on the outside.
What you need
| Item | Why |
|---|---|
| Mild dish soap | Cleans without stripping the coat |
| Soft sponge or cloth | Safe on powder coat and the engraving |
| Bottle brush | Reaches the bottom of tall tumblers and straw mugs |
| Straw brush | For the Travel Straw Mug straw |
| Baking soda | Lifts coffee stains and odors inside |
| White vinegar | Clears hard-water spots |
| Butter knife or toothpick | Pops the gasket out of the lid (gently) |
No special engraving cleaner exists or is needed. If a product promises to "protect your engraving," skip it.
Daily clean: two minutes
- Empty the cup and rinse inside and out with warm water.
- Add a drop of dish soap to a soft sponge and wash the inside walls. Use a bottle brush for tall models like the 30 oz Travel Straw Mug.
- Wash the outside, including the engraving, with the same soapy sponge.
- Rinse the lid and slider under warm running water. On MagSlider lids, pop the magnetic slider off and rinse both parts.
- Dry with a soft towel, or air dry upside down on a rack.
That is it. If you do this most days, you will rarely need a deep clean.
Deep clean for coffee stains and odors
Coffee and tea can leave a brown film inside over time. Protein shakes and flavored drinks can leave smells. Stainless steel is non-porous, so it comes clean with a little time.
Baking soda soak
- Add 1 to 2 tablespoons of baking soda to the empty cup.
- Fill with warm water and stir.
- Let it sit 15 to 30 minutes.
- Scrub with a bottle brush, rinse well, and dry.
YETI cleaning tablets
YETI sells cleaning tablets for the inside of Rambler drinkware. YETI notes they are not meant for caps or lids, so keep them in the cup.
Keep it inside
Deep-clean products belong inside the cup. On the outside, mild soap and water is all the engraving and powder coat need.
How to clean the lid and gasket
Most smells live in the lid, not the cup. The rubber gasket that seals the lid traps moisture if you never take it out.
- Use a butter knife or toothpick to gently lift the gasket out of its groove. Do not use anything sharp.
- Wash the gasket and lid in warm soapy water.
- Rinse and let both dry completely.
- Press the gasket back in. YETI says the ribs face out with the wider flange on top. Make sure it sits evenly all the way around.
Once a week is a good habit for daily drinkers. YETI also warns that acidic drinks like lemonade and margaritas can etch the lid if left sitting, so rinse after those.
Cleaning a YETI Travel Straw Mug
The 40 oz, 30 oz, and 20 oz Travel Straw Mugs add a straw and straw lid. Run a straw brush through the straw with soapy water after any drink that is not plain water. Rinse the lid around the straw opening, where residue likes to build up. Let everything dry before you reassemble.
Lowball, Colster, Chug bottle, and Jr.
Every YETI model follows the same basic care, with a few small differences:
- Rambler 10 oz Lowball: wide and short, so it is the easiest to clean. A sponge reaches everything.
- Rambler 12 oz Colster: the rubber gasket that grips the can can be pulled out and rinsed. Let it dry before you put it back so it does not trap moisture.
- Rambler 18 oz Bottle with Chug Cap: use a bottle brush inside and rinse the threads on the cap and bottle, where grit collects.
- Rambler Jr. 12 oz Kids Bottle: kids mean juice and milk. Rinse right away and wash the straw cap after anything other than water.
Whatever the model, the engraving gets the same soft sponge and mild soap as the rest of the outside.
Can it go in the dishwasher?
YETI lists Rambler drinkware as dishwasher safe and recommends the top rack, away from the heating element, with gaskets removed. Engraving does not change that. The engraving cannot wash off because it is not printed on.
That said, high heat and harsh detergent can dull a powder coat over many cycles. For a gift or a piece you want to keep looking new, hand washing is the better habit. More detail is in our guide on whether laser engraving is dishwasher safe.
What never to use on an engraved YETI
| Avoid | Why | Use instead |
|---|---|---|
| Bleach or chlorine cleaners | YETI warns they affect the finish | Mild dish soap |
| Steel wool, scouring pads | Scratches the coat near the mark | Soft sponge or cloth |
| Abrasive powders | Dulls the coat and the bare metal | Baking soda paste, gently, inside only |
| Overnight soaks | Hard on lids and gaskets | A short wash and dry |
| Sharp tools on the gasket | Can tear the seal | A butter knife or toothpick |
Hard-water spots on the engraving
Around Denton County, hard water is common. It can leave white spots on the bare metal of the engraving and on the rim. Wipe with a soft cloth dampened with equal parts white vinegar and water, rinse, and dry. Drying right after washing prevents most spots.

Frequently asked questions
Can I scrub the engraving on my YETI?
Use a soft sponge and mild soap, the same as the rest of the outside. Avoid abrasive pads, which can scratch the coating along the edge of the design.
How do I get the coffee smell out of my YETI?
Soak the inside with 1 to 2 tablespoons of baking soda and warm water for 15 to 30 minutes, then scrub and rinse. Also pull and wash the lid gasket, which is where most smells hide.
Is an engraved YETI dishwasher safe?
YETI lists Rambler drinkware as dishwasher safe on the top rack with gaskets removed. The engraving will not wash off. Hand washing keeps the powder coat looking newer for longer.
Can I use bleach on my YETI?
No. YETI says not to use bleach or cleaners containing chlorine because they affect the finish.
How often should I deep clean my tumbler?
Daily drinkers do well with a quick wash every day, a gasket clean once a week, and a baking soda soak when you notice stains or smells.
Why does the engraving look cloudy?
Usually hard-water spotting on the bare metal. Wipe with diluted white vinegar, rinse, and dry.
